Tensions rise as N Korea tests three missiles

North Korea tested three short-range missiles yesterday, ratcheting up regional tensions already high after Pyongyang's atomic test and subsequent UN sanctions.

The communist state launched two surface-to-ship missiles off its east coast. They travelled about 100km and fell into the sea, South Korea's defence ministry said, adding that it was still looking into a third missile launch last night.
