Kazakhs charge ex-head of atomic power

Kazakhstan charged the former president of the national atomic power company of stealing state uranium assets on Wednesday, broadening an official campaign to uproot corruption in the resource-rich central Asian country.

Opposition activists said the case, the latest in a wave of legal attacks on top business executives, was politically motivated and reflected a rush by the Kazakh elite to assert control over strategic industries as the financial crisis intensifies.
