EU tax plan targets bank secrecy

Brussels on Monday proposed new rules to prevent EU member states from using bank secrecy laws to hinder tax collection.

The new directives are aimed at improving mutual assistance between countries tax authorities. In particular, they will mean that an EU member state cannot invoke bank secrecy rules in order to refuse cross-border co-operation.
