Retailers call for business policy rethink

Plans to increase National Insurance and to force companies to report any gender pay gap should be scrapped, the head of the British Retail Consortium will tell Lord Mandelson on Wednesday.

At the BRC’s annual dinner, Luke Mayhew, the organisation’s chairman, will urge the business secretary, the keynote speaker, to “resist introducing even more taxation that would undermine consumer confidence and spending power”.
