Russia to lend $1bn to Serbia

Dmitry Medvedev, Russia’s president, agreed on Tuesday to lend $1bn to Serbia to help the cash-strapped Balkan country weather the recession, officials in Belgrade said.

Mr Medvedev, who discussed details of the loan with his Serbian counterpart Boris Tadic in Belgrade on Tuesday, said he expected Russian companies to participate actively in new Serbian infrastructure projects.
