Bernard Madoff, who carried out crimes of “extraordinary dimensions”, should receive a 150-year jail sentence or at least one that ensures he spends the rest of his life in prison, federal prosecutors said Friday.

In a letter to Judge Denny Chin, who is due to sentence Mr Madoff, 71, on Monday, prosecutors said a “reasonable’’ sentence would be 150 years, the maximum possible under federal sentencing guidelines, or “a term that would assure Madoff will remain in prison for life”.
