Australia’s inflation rate accelerates

Australian consumer prices rose faster than expected in the third quarter, raising the prospect of a further interest rate rise next week when the central bank is expected to pull back further on stimulus measures.

For the September quarter, the consumer price index rose 1 per cent from the previous three months, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said on Wednesday. The advance topped the 0.5 per cent rise in the June quarter and the 0.8 per cent consensus estimate of economists surveyed by Reuters.
