Employment claims hit public sector hardest

The public sector faces a disproportionately large number of employment claims compared with the private sector, according to an analysis of cases heard by the Employment Appeal Tribunal.

A higher rate of trade union membership, combined with willingness by public sector unions to fund claims, are put forward as reasons for the discrepancy identified in research by EMW Picton Howell, a commercial law firm.
