Tax dodgers targeted as deadline looms

Investigators are warning they plan an aggressive crackdown on thousands of tax evaders if they continue to ignore the Revenue and Customs “amnesty” for offshore account holders, which expires this month.

Only about 4,300 offshore account holders have decided to come clean about unpaid tax, equivalent to about 1 per cent of the potentially suspicious accounts that have recently been disclosed by five high-street banks to Revenue and Customs.
