Tesco aims at gap in US food shopping

The Safeway supermarket on the 7th Avenue and Cabrillo in San Francisco is not one of the chain’s finest: it has an exhaustive range of items, but a relatively nondescript range of fresh products and a generally worn feel.

Serving customers near the city’s Golden Gate Park, the store is the kind of US traditional supermarket that has been losing business over the last decade.
