Beijing uncovers $1bn bank irregularities

Beijing’s chief government auditor has uncovered suspected criminal conduct involving funds worth $1.1bn in an examination of the books of the Agricultural Bank of China, one of the country’s big five state banks.

The China National Audit Office said that the irregularities in the ABC’s books related to its 2004 financial statements, according to a brief report carried by Xinhua, the official news agency on Monday.
