Tomato price spike sparks Argentine boycott

Argentine consumer groups have launched a week-long boycott of tomatoes after prices climbed to nearly $6 a kilo, making the salad garnish on the nation’s dinner plates more expensive than the meat.

The boycott has come amidst concerns over galloping food inflation and distrust of official figures in the run-up to elections on October 28 expected to be won by Cristina Fernández, the wife of current president Néstor Kirchner.
