OFT to probe housebuilding industry

The competition watchdog is to investigate the £20bn housebuilding market amid concerns that buyers are being hit by supply shortages, low quality and a lack of innovation among construction companies.

The Home Builders’ Federation immediately proclaimed it was confident the Office of Fair Trading investigation would give the industry a “clean bill of health”, adding that the real problem was the lack of land with planning permission to build new homes.
