Bali leaders move towards agreement

Ban Ki-moon, secretary-general of the UN, on Wednesday said a sticking point in launching the two-year process to replace the Kyoto protocol – specific targets for greenhouse gas reductions – may be “ambitious”.

The statement, made in Bali at a UN climate change conference, came as the US agreed to a compromise position that would permit formal negotiations on a new climate change treaty to start.
