ONS paints picture of slow recovery

Britain’s economy contracted in the third quarter by slightly less than initially reported, although a much hoped-for rebalancing towards greater exports and higher savings showed little sign of materialising.

Gross domestic product fell by 0.3 per cent in the three months to September, the Office for National Statistics reported – less than the 0.4 per cent drop estimated in the provisional figures a month ago but far from the positive growth most economists expected.
