Brussels targets money transfers

The European Commission will on Thursday reveal a draft law allowing consumers and businesses in the European Union to make cross-border payments as easily and cheaply as domestic money transfers.

The proposal seeks to replace the current patchwork of national payment schemes with a pan-European legal framework for cross-border payments via credit card, debit card, electronic bank transfer, direct debit and other means.
