Democrats round on Bush over trade gap

Democrats rounded on the Bush administration as figures released on Tuesday showed the US trade deficit widened to an all time record of $764bn last year.

The trade gap rose 6.5 per cent to a new high after December’s deficit increased more than expected to $61.2bn from $58.1bn as imports accelerated and exports slowed.
