An experimental Alzheimer's drug developed by scientists at Aberdeen university could give fresh hope to sufferers of the brain disease after halting the mental deterioration of patients for at least 18 months in trials.
The results, announced last night at the International Conference on Alzheimer's Disease in Chicago, "suggest the drug could be over twice as effective as any treatment currently available", said Clive Ballard, head of research for the Alzheimer's Society.
