In recent years, a striking new term has entered the vocabulary of some residents of the Swiss ski resort of Verbier. Les “hedgies” are those who make their living by managing hedge funds, or through related service business such as offering legal advice to hedge fund managers.

This mountainous canton of Switzerland, which used to be relatively immune to the finer details of financial markets, has witnessed an unprecedented influx of wealthy skiers from London in recent years.
