Bush concedes US ‘not winning’ in Iraq

President George W. Bush publicly said on Wednesday that insurgents in Iraq had this year succeeded in fomenting sectarian violence, undermining the Iraqi government and thwarting US efforts to secure stability.

Replacing his confident assertion of October that “absolutely we are winning in Iraq”, Mr Bush told The Washington Post on Tuesday: “We’re not winning, we’re not losing.”
