Juergen Grossmann, chief executive of German power company RWE, drew some grand historical parallels in an early September speech launching an electric-car partnership with Daimler.
He invoked Thomas Edison’s invention of the light bulb and John F. Kennedy’s backing of the Apollo space programme to introduce “e-mobility Berlin”. The project will see RWE roll out recharging points for electric Smart and Mercedes cars around the German capital by late 2009.
