International Rescue: A week of self-development can be a useful ‘luxury’

For Robin Dunn Marcos, an executive director at the International Rescue Committee, a global non-profit that that specialises in humanitarian relief, the chance to spend a week at the Thunderbird School of Global Management learning about leadership and strategy felt like “a luxury”.

“The funding for non-profit professional development is extremely limited,” she says. “And when you work in human services, it’s very hard to step away from the direct services. To get out of the trenches and have an opportunity to really look at our systems, our structures, our vision, and where we want to go – it felt like a luxury.”
