Tehran threatens ‘crushing’ reply if attacked

Iran threatened retaliation on Tuesday against Tel Aviv, US shipping in the Gulf and Washington’s interests around the world if it were subjected to an attack aimed at crippling its nuclear ­programme.

In an escalation of tensions between Israel and Iran over Tehran’s uranium enrichment programme, a leading aide to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, used blunt language to spell out how the country would respond to any assault.
