Response to crisis causing ‘concern’ in EU

The inability of international accounting standard setters to respond quickly to issues created by the financial crisis is causing “growing concern” among Europe’s finance ministers, a top European Union official said on Thursday.

Charlie McCreevy, EU internal market commissioner, told a conference in Brussels that finance ministers had been complaining in recent months about “what they see as an over-academic approach to standard-setting, which many see as out of touch with today’s reality”.
