Criticism as Obama reaches for the stars

Barack Obama flexed his fundraising muscles in Beverly Hills this week at a glitzy, $28,500-a-head dinner that attracted some of Hollywood’s biggest stars.

But the event, attended by Leonardo DiCaprio, Jodie Foster and Pierce Brosnan with entertainment from Barbra Streisand, glossed over growing doubts about whether Mr Obama’s gamble to forgo public campaign funds will pay off.
