Recession-hit shoppers turn to car boot sales

Waterproof macs, wet grass and plastic cups of tea might not sound like the ingredients of a successful shopping trip but needs must when the recession bites.

The humble car boot sale is back and, while rummaging through a pile of old crockery is not everyone’s idea of a perfect Saturday, organisers across the country have seen a sharp rise in customers flocking to sales in search of a bargain.
