Web of wrongdoing that spanned an industry

A suspect building contract at a Nottingham hospital triggered the price-fixing probe that has exposed how rotten practices across the construction industry allegedly leached public and private money from billions of pounds of contracts.

As the accused companies responded on Tuesday with a mixture of contrition and aggression, the Office of Fair Trading unveiled an investigation summary suggesting that – as in Agatha Christie’s Orient Express murder – almost all the potential suspects turned out to be involved.
