Campbell quits Lib Dem leadership

Sir Menzies Campbell, leader of Britain’s Liberal Democrats, dramatically quit on Monday night, paying the price for the party’s steep slide in popularity.

Two of his key lieutenants, Vince Cable, deputy leader, and Simon Hughes, party president, announced his resignation on the steps of the Lib Dems’ headquarters in Westminster.
