Energy bills will rise soon, industry executives told MPs yesterday, and the increases could be steep.

Giving evidence to the business and enterprise committee of MPs, the executives blamed the rise in retail prices on soaring wholesale gas prices, which are linked to oil by the long-term supply contracts common in continental Europe.
