Far right surge alarms Israeli Arabs

The desk of Gnaim Mazn, mayor of the small Israeli town of Sakhnin, is flanked by portraits of the country’s president and prime minister. On the wall above him he has pinned a large Israeli flag with its distinctive blue stripes and the star of David.

From next week, however, such visible identification with the government and state of Israel will become harder for Mr Mazn and fellow members of the Arab minority.
