Global markets cheered by huge China financial stimulus package

Financial and commodity markets around the world cheered yesterday after China unveiled a huge fiscal stimulus package designed to prevent its economy from slumping next year.

The mainland Chinese stock market had its best day in seven weeks, rising 7.3 per cent. The news also boosted markets across the rest of Asia, Europe and Latin America.
