G8 patience running out as Iran stalls

The US and European Union are threatening to return to the United Nations Security Council over Iran's nuclear programme, as frustration in western capitals grows over Tehran's slow response to an international package of incentives aimed at halting sensitive nuclear work.

Officials in Washington and the EU are seeking to use a high-profile foreign ministers' meeting this week to tell Iran that it needs to respond quickly to the international offer - or face the prospect of UN action.
