The European Union is to send a team of senior policymakers to Beijing next month for talks on climate change, the EU’s trade deficit with China and other economic issues, officials in Brussels said on Thursday.

The delegation will be led by José Manuel Barroso, the European Commission president, and is likely to include five to eight other commissioners, notably those responsible for trade, energy, the environment and external relations.
