Grade exit leaves corporation in disarray

If there were shares in the BBC, they would almost certainly fall this morning.

Michael Grade’s appointment as executive chairman of ITV surprised almost everyone following the tortuous independent broadcaster’s saga, but it came as a deep shock to the BBC. To lose a chairman in the final few weeks of the BBC’s crucial negotiations about its funding for the next decade would be disruptive enough.
