Tax rules ‘fail the test of practicality’

Thousands of family businesses face “enormous administrative burdens” as a result of new tax rules due to be introduced in April, a professional institute has warned the Treasury.

The Chartered Institute of Taxation said the government’s plans to raise about £200m ($393m) a year by tackling a form of tax planning known as income shifting “fail the tests of workability, practicality and certainty”.
