Nine jailed over Bawag bank fraud

A Vienna court on Friday sentenced nine people to prison for their role in causing €1.7bn ($2.6bn) losses at Austrian bank Bawag PSK.

Former chief executive Helmut Elsner was sentenced to nine and a half years in prison and eight other defendants received lesser jail terms over failed speculative investments and covering up losses through balance sheet fraud.
