Turkey names key bank official

Ankara yesterday appointed an academic at a US university to the monetary policy committee of the Turkish central bank, filling one of two vacancies that have existed for nearly two years.

Economists welcomed the appointment of Abdullah Yavas, a professor of business administration at Pennsylvania State University, to the committee, saying his academic independence would be an asset.
