Fairfax silent on TV speculation

John Fairfax, the Australian newspaper publisher, moved yesterday to dampen speculation that it was considering buying a stake in Ten, one of the country's biggest broadcasters, from its Canadian owner for up to A$1bn (US$767m).

The publisher did not deny or confirm reports on a possible bid, saying only that it had nothing to report to the market with regard to Ten.
