US candidates adrift on ‘silver tsunami’

Unless he can pull off a surprise comeback in the next few weeks, Fred Thompson’s presidential bid looks in danger of becoming a minor footnote in US electoral history.

But while his campaign is faltering, the former Tennessee senator has made at least one significant contribution to the 2008 presidential race: a serious plan to reform Social Security.
