Travel companies will this week mount a legal challenge in the High Court against the government over the validity of air passenger duty following Gordon Brown's decision to double the levy.

The increase, announced by the chancellor in his December pre-Budget report and coming into effect on Thursday, has angered tour operators and airlines.
