Consolidation in Japan’s liquid crystal display television sector continued on Wednesday as Funai Electric and JVC announced a tie-up in which they will jointly develop and assemble flat-panel TVs.

JVC was rescued by Kenwood, a Japanese peer, last year after the collapse of protracted discussions with private equity firm Texas Pacific Group . It had been loss-making for four years.
