An option to widen the spread of asset classes

Multi-asset funds, many of which sit in the cautious managed sector, have been a hot theme for the past 18 months, but they do not all invest in the same way.

The traditional idea behind a multi-asset fund is that it invests in all the main areas: equities, bonds, cash, property - and often commodities, too - taking away the hassle of asset allocation from the investor or the financial adviser.
