CBS News apologises for Bush story

CBS News on Monday became the latest media organisation to apologise for lapses in reporting, admitting it should not have based a news story about President George W. Bush's military service on documents whose authenticity was now “in doubt”.

CBS said a source in the story, a former member of the Texas National Guard named Bill Burkett, had admitted deliberately misleading the network by giving a producer a “false account of the documents' origins”.
