North and South Korea in naval clash

North and South Korean warships exchanged fire in the Yellow Sea yesterday, raising tensions in the region days before Barack Obama, the US president, is due to visit Asia.

South Korea’s joint chiefs of staff said smoke pouring from the North Korean vessel suggested it had been hit. Although 15 bullets struck the two South Korean ships involved, none of the sailors aboard were injured in the two-minute skirmish. they added.
