Jonathan Safran Foer’s first novel, Everything is Illuminated, was inspired by a photograph of the woman who apparently saved his grandfather from the Nazis. His second novel, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (2006), tells the story of a boy in New York traumatised by 9/11. Born in 1977 in Washington DC, Foer studied at Princeton and lives in Brooklyn, New York, with his wife and son.
