SPD to focus on German minimum wage

Germany’s Social Democrats will put their demand for a universal minimum wage at the top of their campaign agenda in crucial regional polls next month that will serve as a dress rehearsal for the September 2009 general election.

“We are going to turn these regional elections . . . into a plebiscite on the minimum wage,” Peter Struck, the SPD floor leader, said this week.
