Tia Fuller Healing Space Mack Avenue Records

Saxophonist/flautist Fuller is a busy New York session musician, whose many gigs include playing with R&B vocalist Beyoncé's all-female touring band. She is also a fine jazz musician/composer, as this album of contemporary modern jazz shows. Her well-structured themes, delivered by rounded alto sax and slightly breathy flute, take in fiery modal jazz, lilting funk and spiritual ballads, two of which have guest vocalists. Trumpeter Sean Jones provides a subtle foil on four tracks, and Ron Blake on tenor sax fleshes out the horns on one. Mike Hobart
