Democrats suffer setback on Iraq

US Democrats on Friday suffered another setback in their faltering effort to force a change of strategy in Iraq, highlighting how General David Petraeus’s progress report on the war has eased pressure on President George W. Bush and the Republican party.

The Senate blocked legislation that would have brought most troops home from Iraq within nine months, marking the third anti-war measure to be defeated this week.
