EU court says TNT ‘golden shares’ illegal

The Dutch government said on Thursday that it would accelerate discussions with TNT to cancel the “golden share” it holds in the mail and express company, following a ruling by the European Court of Justice that the construction was unlawful.

The court said the mechanism, which had given the state a veto on mergers and takeovers, “restricted the free movement of capital”.
