Patientsto initiate doorstep healthcare

Patients will in future be able to force their local primary care trust, which purchases and provides healthcare, to put its entire service out to tender to "any willing provider", the government announced yesterday.

This would open up not only the provision of NHS services but potentially also their commissioning to the full range of public, private and voluntary sector operators for the first time.
